Artist Taiye Idahor in collaboration with The Whitespace Gallery Ikoyi will exhibit her recent works titled “Hairvolution”, from November 8 to November 28.
According to the artist Hairvolution emerged from a fundamental and persistent question- ‘Is this your hair?’.
The exhibition is a journey of self-discovery which began with the artist focusing on her family history and lineage.
Taiye Idahor unravels and question her history and identity in her new body of work, adopting her paternal grandmother’s name, Ayie as her point of reference.
Hairvolution explores the origins, history and memories attached to her curly long hair, while delving into the concept of multiplicity and reincarnation, a belief strongly held within her Benin culture.
The exhibition is made up of newsprint, drawing and photographic collage on canvas. Opening reception is on the 8th of November, 3pm and runs till the 28th of November 2014
